ABOUT:
BETWEEN FRIENDS is the boundless creative outlet for LA-based sibling duo Brandon and Savannah Hudson, championing a fearless, euphoric approach to songwriting and musical worldbuilding. Formed in 2017, following a lifetime of collaborating in their childhood home, they debuted their eclectic fusion of ‘90s R&B and atmospheric electronica blended together to create their own kind of pop music. This was followed by their highly-anticipated EP we just need some time together in 2018, which included immensely popular tracks “iloveyou” (75M+ streams), and “affection” (400M+ streams).
During 2021’s lockdowns, they transformed pent-up pandemic energy into a string of EP’s, later released in full as the mixtape i like when you shine!, featuring “reference bounce” (7M streams), a collaboration with EDEN. Having amassed a dedicated digital following through their transcendent lyrical musings on youth culture in the internet age, in 2022 they embarked on their first US tour and festival debut at Governer’s Ball. The same year saw the release of their innovative multimedia EP CUTiE, which was met with praise from the likes of V Magazine and The FADER. Genre-bending singles “orange juice” (10M streams) and “more” (10M streams) were accompanied by a lo-fi, dreamy visual universe constructed from a sprawling galaxy of aesthetic references that ranges from early ‘00s MTV, to Tumblr-era indie-sleaze and even classic cinema. This year marks an evolution for BETWEEN FRIENDS, delivering their most confessional lyrics yet, alongside a newfound penchant for nostalgic, ‘90s teen movie-esque soundscapes. Here, the irremovable chemistry intrinsic to their music guides an instant classic coming-of-age record for Gen-Z, and reveals an intimate glimpse beneath the technicolor pop utopia they’ve built so far.
